The news depresses me. I typically don't look at the news unless its a story that circulating around social media. However, as I've gotten a little older (a little, hoe pipe down!) and on the computer 5 days a week 8 hours a day. I have more time to read the news.

Mother accused of murdering son and stuffing body in suitcase makes conspiracy claims in court appearance Story by Dan Gooding

A melanated mother is on trial for killing her son back in 2022. Leaving the baby in the suitcase on the side of the road in Indiana. She made posts on social media calling the baby a demon around the time of his death. She vanished and spent two years on the run. She was found and charged. In court she speaks about being followed by a space force, she's 63 (she's really 38), and she's a princess.

My thoughts: Clearly, she has some mental issues. Idgaf, ima pull the race card every time. If she was a Becky, she would be in a mental health facility and the narrative would be worded differently like "Suburban mentally disturbed mom on trial for possibly killing of her son." The way the media displays us even in a messed-up case like this compared to our white counterparts diminishes our image to the world and even to ourselves. Also, we have to support our mothers out here. Check on them, offer to get them some sort of break to tend to themselves. I'm not sure that she was a single mother but the first thought that comes to mind is, where is her support? Nobody seen the signs before this happened. We have to stop putting this stigma on melanated women that they can handle it all/everything and be okay and discrediting how they feel mentally or physically when it is address. We need to offer more grace and empathy. I hope she gets the mental help that she needs and that the family can heal from this tragedy in due time.

Keith Gavin: Execution date set for Alabama death row inmate convicted of fatally shooting delivery driver in robbery attempt

Story by Shanmugapriya Murugesan

This article speaks about a melanated man accused of Robbery in 1998. He has an execution date set for this summer. The article points out the eyewitnesses (His own family) and evidence gather against him in this case. Back in 2016, he tried to appeal his case due to him have inadequate representation during his trial however the judge did side with him but concluded that it didn't establish any prejudice with is case.

My thoughts: HOW the FUCK are they still enforcing the death penalty when it's been shown, proven that the law enforcement and other parts of the justice system have lied, paid witnesses, planted evidence, picked random people of the street for crimes they have committed themselves. I really think we need to put more effort into prison reform and heavily defund the police and "justice " system as a whole. In this case idk if this man is innocent or not but could you image knowing the day you are going to die in the hands of your state and in front of an audience in some cases.

I feel like this is something we need to speak more on in our spaces. "Celebrities"....social media influencers... Can we get Ms. Davis on the line?
